Today we are mourning.
A roof at a supermarket in Latvia's capital Riga has collapsed. Now, when I’m writing this, the death toll has climbed to 51, 22 victims are hospitalized and many more still remain missing.
The collapse happened while I was at university, which is located nearby. At first we did not understand why there are continuous sirens racing by. After we checked media and found out what had happened, lump in my throat grew bigger and sirens racing by seemed louder and louder.
Beloved daughters and sons were lost. Beloved mothers and fathers were lost. Beloved sisters, brothers, grandmothers, grandfathers, cousins and just close friends and good people were lost. I am lucky enough to have all my friends and family members safe.
There are people who will need help both emotional and financial. Thanks to opportunities this blog has gave me, I want to ask to you to not stay passive. Please help my nation to go through this difficult time. All I ask is a donation or a prayer.
If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under. - Ronald Reagan

Pavlova has been one of my all time favorite desserts. But the thing is, I have never before made one myself and the one main reason was - "it so hard to make!" Yes, people kept telling me that it is almost impossible to make. Then I thought, when has a degree of difficulty ever stopped me from doing what I like? That's right, never. And you know? It turns out pavlova is a quite easy dessert to make, although very time consuming. It took me and my friend to make pavlovas around three hours including preparing, cooking, garnishing and goofing time. I have to admit, we were slow as hell. We were so slow that the night came and I had to take the end result photos in the room light. Those interested in photography will know - it is a nightmare.
About the end result - pavlovas were divine! We added whipped cream without sugar, fresh mango puree and pomegranate seeds on top. They were fresh, crispy, soft - everything you can imagine.
Pagājušajā sestdienā devos satikt savus vidusskolas pasniedzējus un skolas biedrus. Skola svinēja 95. gadu jubileju, tāpēc pasākums bija īpaši jauks, jo nākamreiz, pēc pieciem gadiem, tiks atzīmēti 100 gadi Siguldas Valsts ģimnāzijai! Bija prieks atgriezties un satikt sen neredzētos. Līdz nākamajam salidojumam!
This past Saturday I went to my high school to visit my teacher and meet my schoolmates. My school celebrated 95 year anniversary, so it was very special. I was very happy to visit my old grounds and meet people who I had not met for a very long time. Until the next reunion!
